A very experienced team

  • Medical and surgical care is always a team effort. I work very closely with specialist radiologists and gastroenterologists. Any scans and or endoscopy tests that you require will be done quickly and by a leading specialist in the field.
  • The anaesthetists I work with are all expert at delivering anaesthesia for this particular kind of surgery.
  • The specialist nurses on my team, the ward nurses and therapists who will look after you, and the operating theatre team are all very experienced in looking after patients with complex biliary problems. We shall try our level best to ensure that your hospital care is of a very high standard.
  • My office will try their best to offer you a prompt outpatient appointment.
  • Our base in central London can be reached very easily by car and by public transport.

What our patients say

I feel so much better. I had a torrid time with infection leading up to my operation. When I came to you, I was very anxious because of the complications that had gone before, but I soon realised that I was in the best possible hands. I’m very thankful for what your team did for me. Would I recommend you to family and friends? Yes! I have your number on speed-dial.

My overall experience as a patient was fantastic. My surgeon was wonderful, as were the nurses and the office staff. If I were asked to rate the care and the service I received, I would give you 5 out of 5.

I’m better after the gallbladder operation. The scars have healed well. I watch what I eat, but have no problems that I can say. I go about as normal as before the operation. I feel confident that I made the right decision to have my gallbladder removed.

I have been doing very well since my operation. The care I received was very good. It was also a comfort that the hospital offered my wife the facility to sleep in my room; it was reassuring that she was there after my surgery

Biography:

I have performed over 2900 cholecystectomies thus far. Apart from gallstone surgery, I carry out operations on the liver, the pancreas and the bile duct, by the keyhole and open methods. I also perform general surgery, such as repair of hernias.

I look after my private patients at The London Clinic and the King Edward VII Hospital. I worked as a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals in London for 22 years (1999 to 2020), where I set up and led the specialist service for liver and pancreas surgery in North-East London. I served as the Serjeant Surgeon to Her Majesty The Queen (2016-23) and prior to that was the Surgeon to the Royal Household (2006-16). I was also Medical Director of The London Clinic for 5 years (2017-22).

I have over 75 publications in surgical journals and have served as a referee (peer reviewer) for 4 international surgical journals. I have raised over £1 million for research into pancreatic and liver disease in the past years. These funds have been utilised in running several research projects at Barts and at the London Clinic. I was an Honorary Reader at the Barts Cancer Institute until 2023. I have been a postgraduate teacher through my consultant years and was an examiner for the FRCS examination in General Surgery from 2015 to 2025.

I grew up in Mumbai, India, and qualified as a doctor from the Grant Medical College. In London, I trained at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals, London, as Registrar, Research Fellow and then Lecturer (Senior Registrar). I was a visiting Fellow at the University of Minnesota with a grant received from the King's Fund.
